· The 29th Annual Stoke Gabriel Wassail. A magical evening of ‘Cider, Culture & Cheer’ organised by the ‘Friends of Stoke Gabriel School’ (FOSS), the Annual Wassail (back after a 3 year absence due to covid and then organisational problems) has become a very popular event. Apple Wassailing is an ancient tradition performed in many villages around 'Old Twelfth Night' to bless the cider apples and orchards and encourage a good crop in the coming year. Gates open at 4pm and there will be various related events in the village running into the evening plus music, food and cider stalls. Details to follow; see: www.facebook.com/stokegabrielwassail/. If you can rehearse (there will be 3 rehearsals – on Thursday 4 January from 7-9pm, in Torquay; Sunday 7 January from 2.30-4.30pm, in South Brent; Saturday 13 January in Totnes) and would like to sing with the ‘South Devon Wassail Singers’ led by Rosa Rebecka for this event, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
