South Brent & District Caring offers help where we can - advice, support, befriending calls and transport for medical appointments (including vaccination appointments).
South Brent & District Caring was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) for 2022. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
The Office is in the Old School Community Centre and is currently open to drop in from- 10am - 12 noon Monday to Thursday or call us on 01364 70028210
Groups and activities (also see the Facebook pages and posters outside The Old School Community Centre):
Ø Coffee mornings now held weekly on Mondays (not bank holidays), from 10.30 until 12 noon. Open to everyone (no need to book). Free (suggested donation £1.50).
Ø Lunch Club: Mondays from 12-1.30pm: alternating between the traditional lunch club (choose between 2 soups & 2 puddings followed by raffle and sweet) and an informal ‘Cafe lunch club’ on the Mondays in-between (more casual, with pasties, salads, sausage rolls, quiche and ploughman style meals followed by Sue's lemon cake). Ø ‘FriendsDay Wednesday’ afternoon groups (incorporating the former Memory Cafe) from 2-4pm. All welcome – no need to book.
Ø NEW Weekly Board Games Club on Thursdays in the Hub 10am-12noon.
Ø NEW Weekly Seated Exercise Class: 2-2.45pm on Thursdays with Jenny in the Hub.
Ø Compassionate Friends Café – Monthly on the second and fourth Saturday (see above)
Ø Footcare Clinic: - with NHS trained nail cutters, every 6 weeks; 9.30am to 2.00pm. Costs: £12.50 on first visit (to include own new clippers); £6.50 for toenail cutting; £2.50 for fingernail cutting. Next sessions: Wed 3 and Fri 5 December 2025; Booking essential. · The Old School Community Centre: The centre is open for use of the printer and photocopier during Post Office and Library hours, and also when booked activities are taking place. Michelle Parton, our administrator, will be available in the Centre from 10-11am and by phone or text on 07707 723637 from 10am – 1pm most weekdays, to help you with any enquiries relating to the Centre and its facilities; she can also be contacted via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. Having consulted and explored a range of options, the trustees are moving forward plans to rejuvenate the centre (see below).
- The Post Office is open from 9-12 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Remember you can use the Post Office to make cash withdrawals from, and payments to, most UK banks.
