Textile Exhibition by Gaynor Williams: ‘Animal Trappings of India and Central Asia: a Flowering an Arid Lands’
10am- 4.45pm in Birdwood House, Totnes.
South Brent’s Gaynor Williams presents an exhibition of embroidered, woven, beaded, braided and felted trappings, for horses, camels, cattle (and a special goat) which were decorative, functional and importantly amuletic.
The creation of these colourful bespoke pieces of the early to mid-20th century is a testament to the alliance between the nomadic and pastoralist peoples and their labouring beasts.
This lifestyle is lost and these wonders no longer made.
