· Climate Change – Extinction Rebellion (XR) - What next? an open meeting from 9.15-11.30am in the Old School Community Centre, for all those interested to:
- Celebrate and clarify what’s happened so far in the rebellion –an overview and personal stories
- Consider what next: What does each of us want to see happen, have to offer to make it happen, and how can we create the time needed to make it happen?
For clarity this is about the rebellion campaign, not about what individuals or groups can do on a practical level about reducing carbon emissions, which falls more under the remit of other organisations such as Sustainable South Brent. There are plans for a meeting on this subject.
The ‘Extinction Rebellion’ (sometimes shortened as XR) is an international social movement that aims to promote radical change, through nonviolent resistance, in order to minimize species extinction and avert climate breakdown. Organisers say they hope the campaign of ‘respectful disruption’ will change the debate around climate breakdown and signal to those in power that the present course of action will lead to disaster.
