‘Ukrainian Update’ – talk by Ian McLure. Ian served in Ukraine as a military attaché in 1998, travelling extensively in the country in the course of his duties. He has been back many times since, as a military interpreter, election observer and even as a tourist. With so much happening in the region this talk updates the one he gave two years ago and will briefly cover the history and geography of Ukraine and recent events, from the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 to the ‘Kerch Incident’ last month. He has also visited the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl with a delegation from Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline and his talk will include the work of this charity.
