Totnes Raft Race known as 'The River Dart Struggle' takes place along the river Dart starting at Dart Bridge Meadow, Buckfastleigh and finishing at Vire Island, Totnes, a distance of approximately 13kms. Rafts will be
launched in arrival order at approximately 1-minute intervals from 8.30am. The route includes white water, three fast flowing weirs and other obstacles to negotiate and calmer stretches. At certain points on the
course, teams may have to pull, push or carry the rafts. An ideal team building exercise with a difference; each team must make their own raft out of a restricted list of approved materials. A record number of 51
teams, raising money for a wide range of charities took part last year. Crews from two to ten per raft, all male, all female or mixed, over the age of 18 can take part in the exciting struggle. All rafters who complete
the course will receive a medal and prizes will be presented in various classes for the fastest teams, most charity sponsorship raised, best fancy dress etc. Apart from the finish, recommended viewing points are
Staverton Bridge, Dartington Estate, Austin's bridge (limited road parking); Riverford bridge (limited road parking). Come and cheer the rafters as they near the finish and enjoy the Raft Race Fair from
11.00am-4.00pm on Vire Island with Hog Roast, live music, entertainment, refreshments and rafts progress chart. See: http://www.totnesraftrace.co.uk/.
