A West Country Concert with Mike O'Connor & Barbara Griggs, Martin & Shan Graebe and Si Barron, at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
Mike O'Connor & Barbara Griggs make beautiful music on a variety of instruments, principally harp, violin, octave violin, and viol. Mike is the leading researcher of music in Cornwall and is also well-known for his song writing and storytelling, with a deep knowledge of Cornish legends and folk tales and a mesmerising skill with language. Barbara is a respected early music specialist. Together, they have unique repertoire from previously unconsidered sources in Cornwall. An evening with Mike and Barbara is a relaxed, highly entertaining blend of fact, fiction, and music that has been described as ‘balm for the soul.’
Martin & Shan Graebe sing together in harmony, drawing from a repertoire of English traditional songs, particularly those collected by Sabine Baring-Gould in Devon and Cornwall – although they also slip in a few of the songs that Martin has written. Martin has spent many years researching Baring-Gould’s life and work and is an acknowledged authority on his folk song collection. Shan has used song extensively in her work as a speech and language therapist with children who have severe learning difficulties and in recent years has joined Martin in his research into the Baring-Gould collection.
and Si Barron of Barron Brady - a very fine singer and guitarist and interpreter of traditional and contemporary folk songs.
