The guest speaker at this meeting will be a representative of the Devon Freewheelers who provide a free courier service to the NHS across Devon. The service is mainly operated on motorbikes by volunteers during the evenings, weekends and public holidays. The ‘Blood Bikes’ carry, whole blood, blood & other medical samples, tissue samples, patient notes, medication, medical equipment and donor breast milk for premature babies. Volunteers provide a whole blood delivery service every 48 hours to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance plus LyoPlas (blood replacement product) for the Air Ambulances. Both services enable patients at the scenes of accidents to have a better chance of getting to hospital to receive treatment.
