The Parish Council has again commissioned 'Torbay Display' to mount the display, using energy saving LED lights.
They will be on from 07.00-23.00 each day in Fore Street, Church Street and from the Anchor Building to The Station House Cafe in Station Road and will include will include ‘Ice white’ and ‘Warm white’ twinkle lighting.
A talk by Chris Jones a mountain bike coach and guide who is an ex soldier and para-athlete with a bronze medal in adaptive surfing.
He will speak about recovery from his injuries sustained in the armed forces through his experiences as a wheel chair user in the sport of mountain biking and surfing.
At its meeting on Monday 20 May 2019, South Brent Parish Council declared an ‘Environment and Climate Emergency’ (more in the Parish Council Newsletter) and Sustainable South Brent has created a ‘Zero Carbon South Brent sub-group’.
This group will look to pursue further local measures/projects that help to reduce the carbon footprint of the parish, which is an ambition of the ‘Parish Plan 2016+’.
These actions follow a number of key events including the publication of the IPCC special report on Climate Change in October 2018; the recent IPBES ‘Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ report in May 2019;
David Attenborough’s programme ‘Climate Change: The Facts’ in April 2019; plus the unanimous declaration of an ‘Environment and Climate Emergency’ by parliament on 1 May 2019 in the wake of public pressure including the School Strikes for the Climate inspired by Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion protests.
