Brent Birders was formed to share information about the birdlife of South Brent parish.  It has a number of activities:

The Brent Bird Survey is a three year project to record the presence and breeding activities of all bird species across the 52 kilometre grid reference squares in the parish.  The results to date are shown in detail on the website (www.brentbirdsurvey.co.uk) and booklets are available for each year of the survey.  While the three year project is now at an end we are actually continuing to record our birds and so please contact Mike Goss (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you'd like to be involved.

  • The survey has also include some other wildlife - butterflies, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
  • We have meetings (normally in the Old School) where speakers talk on a variety of topics - both related to birds and of general wildlife interest.
  • We send out emails about our current activities.  Contact Mike Goss if you'd like to be included on the mailing list.
  • We have an annual visit to Bovey Heathfield to see and listen to the spectacular and ethereal Nightjars.
  • Steve Hopper runs a very active South Brent Birders Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/122713647924282/

Brent Birders Art Competition: Are you 15 or under, interested in wildlife and artistic? If so, you could win one of three prizes (1st prize: £25; 2nd prize: £15; 3rd prize: £10) in our artwork competition.  We are looking for photos, sketches, drawings or paintings of the bird life of South Brent which could be used as illustrations in our report of the recently completed three-year bird survey of the parish to be published later this year – The Birds of South Brent Parish.  If you are over 15 we would still like to consider your artwork for the report but sorry you won’t be eligible for a prize. Further details can be obtained from Dave MacDiarmid (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).  Deadline for submissions is the end of July 2017.
